Frequently Asked Question (FAQs)

Engine oils meeting specifications wont be providing any negative impact on engine unless there will any mechanical issues over engine parts. One should always follow recommended oil to his vehicle. Incase of any mechanical issue , let your vehicle get inspected by mechanic expert.

Oil are not volatile as there flash point is more than 2000C. So consuming of more oil may have below causes that has to be worked by expert,

  • Worn out rings – Cylinder rings worn will not scrap complete oil and it may enter combustion chamber. This phenomenon continues oil consumption.
  • Ring wrongly fitted – Ring fitting is crucial one. Reverse scrapper ring fitting may not scrap out oil
  • External leaks – Leaks from any part of engines, seals
  • Wrong recommendations – Low viscosity oil used against recommended
  • Engine gone under overhaul – Engine needs maintenance
  • Fuel adulteration – Fuel leakage passing and get mixed with lube, Fuel adulteration by external sources
  • Blow by gas –  Due to some mechanical issue, smoke is getting mixed in oil chamber, and it makes oil thick and contaminated.
  • Oil used beyond drain – Oil has not changed during regular intervals and used for long periods.
  • Low oil levels – No oil or low oil level starved engine. Causes no lubrication over engine parts.

There can be several reason for exhaust smoke and one need to understand smoke depending on its color.

  • Black color – Rich fuel mixture into chamber causes unburning of fuel and formation of soot. Exhaust pipe having lot of black soot
  • White color  – Moisture trapped into exhaust , condensation
  • Blue – Lube is burning into combustion chamber

Any persistence smoke should be highlighted to mechanic to get corrective measures and avoid any other impact.

Engine oil has detergents that clean up engine soot and turns black . It’s another representation of engine oil detergency ability.

Engine continuous heat exposure through engine cycle also make engine oil dark.

Other reason:

  • Fuel dilution  – Fuel dilution in oil will lose viscosity and blow back gas pass.

*The crux of all FAQs , engine oil functions for cooling, detergency, lubricity , protection. As per above FAQs , lube oil has no contribution.
